We are Moana New Zealand

Our people

Our people are proud of their work with Moana New Zealand, and they’re honoured to work in the seafood sector given the challenges we face. Our people understand how Moana New Zealand came to be, why we exist, and how our values are embedded in our culture and how we operate.

We are committed to promoting the employment and engagement of Māori within Moana New Zealand.

Happy and healthy employees

Engaging with staff

Employees who live our values, enjoy coming to work and have a meaningful connection to what we do.Employee experience is the outcome of everything an employee thinks, feels and interacts with at work. Our people have collectively been working to improve engagement with workshops and action planning sessions being carried out across the business. This work has helped encourage our people to hold each other to account and take ownership for the role we all have in creating an environment where everyone loves coming to work and we all contribute to making Moana a great place to work.

Health and Safety

Our risk management programme

In August 2024 we reached a milestone with our health and safety reporting and registered the 10,000th entry in our health and safety management system – The Tackle Box. We continue to maintain our focus on what could cause serious injury or fatality. Having information from our observations helps us apply our efforts and take positive steps on the path of continuous improvement.

Hīkoi ki te Ora

Health and wellness

Regardless of our culture, we all share similar values. We are diverse, but we are one. Hīkoi ki te Ora is our programme helping manage the wellbeing of our people. Various dimensions of wellbeing guide our approach:

  • podcasts, videos and downloadable resources
  • healthy, easy and cheap recipes
  • exercise motivation and tips
  • free health checks
  • expert advice on physical health issues such as managing diabetes
  • shopping guides, meal planners and money-saving ideas.

Where does the dividend go?

Moana New Zealand exists for Iwi and because of Iwi

We are proud of the value we provide to our Iwi partners which goes well beyond a financial return. Seeing the continual socio-economic support that our Iwi partners are able to provide to their communities as a result of their Moana New Zealand dividend, makes it all worth it.

From Māori, for Māori

Pātaka kai

New Zealand’s customary allocation of quota allows us to provide kaimoana to Iwi who hold ACE or quota agreements with Moana, as part of our pātaka kai programme. This programme allows Iwi access to kaimoana to be used for tangihana, funerals and community responsiveness during the pandemic.
