Our Place

precious resource

Our Place

Follow along with us as we work to protect and enhance the place we operate in, the realm of Tangaroa, the ocean. We’re ensuring that we actively play our part in reducing our emissions. Key to this is playing our part in understanding the effects of land-based activities on the moana.

SmartOysters

on farm innovation

SmartOysters is a multi-platform mobile app designed by oyster farmers to help manage on-farm activities.

It is a simple-to-use application accessed with a weatherproof smartphone that uses mobile data, Wi-Fi and GPS to allow it to be used as an on-water farm management tool.

New trucks

Lower emissions & improved safety features

With our long-term view and sustainability focus in mind, our most recently purchased trucks (DAF brand) were specifically selected because of their engine power, low carbon emissions and fuel efficiency.

These two new vehicles were fitted with specifically designed platforms that support operating safety at height during vessel discharge. The platforms allow improved manoeuvrability around the truck deck.

In the 2019/20 financial year we retrofitted three existing fleet trucks with new safety platforms to provide further safety when operating at height during vessel discharge. In April 2022 we have a new DAF truck arriving.

Sustainability initiative progress

at Palmerston North

Moana’s Palmerston North site has reduced packaging by 12% without any monetary investment, but simply a culture change.

By making small changes such as using compostable liners for bins and moving from plastic bags to buckets, the site has reduced its waste to landfill by 50%.

When it comes to energy usage, they have also reduced their consumption by 12% since 2015.

This has resulted in heightened resilience to increasing power costs that have come into effect this year.

Our waste commitment policy
