Co–funding precision harvesting technology
For enduring oceans
FloMo, also known as Precision Seafood Harvesting, is a selective trawl system designed to target specific fish species and sizes, with undersized fish being able to swim free. This innovative gear design addresses three perennial challenges our industry faces: selectivity, survivability and quality. The majority of our contract trawl fishers now use this technology.

Ready–to–eat meals
We created the Moana Meals website which showcases our ready-to-eat meal production and canning capabilities, all lean-manufactured at our Palmerston North production facility. Our facility has the potential to support critical humanitarian aid organisations, contract packing and meals-ready-to-eat customers and other food production services.

Online store launch
Moana New Zealand’s digital storefront
Following a period of development and testing, we launched our first direct-to-public online retail offering late in FY20. Moana New Zealand’s digital storefront was progressively phased in across existing channels including social media.
In addition to sales objectives, the online store encourages engagement with our premium kaimoana offerings, the Moana New Zealand brand, and demonstrates our ongoing efforts to broaden our sales channels with public purchasing options.
We now offer a broader a range of kaimoana species in various quantities direct to the public. We are unable to delivery rurally, however please keep checking back as rest assured we are working on this.

Humanitarian Aid
Meals for relief
Our Palmerston North facility has the capability to produce humanitarian aid packages with meals ready-to-eat. Our meals have been used by New Zealand scientists on long-distance journeys in Antarctica within ration packs, and by the Australian Defence Force in prepacked meals-ready-to-eat rations. They are popular and practical due to reducing packaging, quick preparation, no refrigeration and minimal water use. During the 2020 pandemic, we partnered with the Salvation Army and Palmerston North Civil Defence Emergency Operations Centre to deliver more than 8,000 RTEs to underserviced communities around the city. We also made these available at cost to all our Iwi shareholders.

Pre-packed fish fillets hit supermarkets
Moana in store
In 2020 we launched our Moana-branded chilled fillets and oysters, which are now available in many New World and PAK’nSAVE stores. Extending our brand and premium kaimoana offerings into supermarkets allow people who care about premium kaimoana to select Moana as their preferred brand.
